1. Optimize your business’ social media profile with high quality images and detailed content about your company, products and/or services. When auditing your social profiles, make sure you’ve:
- Uploaded a headshot, business image or logo to profile picture.
- Featured a custom branded image or video for your cover photo.
- Written a dynamic bio for the About Us section, with a branded display photo.
- Updated contact information and hours of operation.
- Look at how your business profiles compare to others in your industry.
- Identify who your ideal client is -- and niche down to highly specific detail. Consider: age, location, job/income, relationship status, personality, pain points, and where they spend the most time online. Cater to that buyer persona.
- Find out which social networks are bringing YOU the most value, then tailor social content to focus on that channel & audience accordingly.
- Ensure your digital strategy aligns with offline campaigns and is on brand.
- Design professional quality graphics using your own branded photography or downloaded stock photography. Don’t pull copyrighted or low resolution images off of Google! Your images and videos should be clear and memorable.
- Craft corresponding post captions for your target audience in your brand voice.
- Humanize your content! By weaving personalized posts (like “Behind the Scenes”, “Meet the Team”, “Live Events” and “True Stories”) in with promotional and sales focused posts, you will build better relationships with your audience.

- Invest in a social media scheduling tool like Hootsuite or Zoho and pre-schedule any evergreen / pillar content that is not time-dependent. Review your marketing content calendar and schedule any seasonal or holiday posts in advance to save yourself time during busy seasons!
5. Engage with your audience! Social media is all about BEING SOCIAL.
- When you respond to comments, questions and reviews right away (whether they are positive or negative) your audience sees you are listening, and that you care. Thank them for taking time to share their experience with your community and for referring their friends, family and neighbours to you!
- Tag customers in any images, videos and posts they are featured in on your social channels. This is important because their followers (who may or may not be your followers) will then see those posts and can comment on, like and share your content, too.
- Link to fellow businesses, charities and partners to help build one another up. Strong alliances = strong, thriving communities!
- Don’t go overboard with #hashtags! Use trending & custom hashtags with intent.
6. Track and analyze post performance to improve your content marketing strategy according to what performs best with your target audience.
- You know what they say… if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. But if your strategy could use some tweaks or A/B testing, make it so. Don’t be afraid to try something new! The beauty of digital media is that it is always changing and always improving. Hop on board!
